Long Overdue
Samuel Adams warned in a letter to James Warren, February 12, 1779 that "A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.“ Alexander Hamilton wrote, "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything." And so here today stands the United States with a government enslaving future generations in untenable debt to provide benefits to current generations, to enrich the crony capitalists plundering the Nations treasury, and to fund the ever reaching tentacles of the American empire. The American People have fallen for this false promise of absolute security from cradle to grave provided by the government and future generations will pay the price. The Founding Virtues of Self Reliance and Love of Liberty have been replaced by an unprincipled reliance on government to care for everyone not just the desperate. This abdication of Liberty resounds about the Land. Far too many Americans have cast aside Virtue and Principle in their quest to grab a slice of the American pie. No more is this in evidence than in the "Halls of Government”. Few are the legislators that believe that a legal governments only purpose is to protect the rights of the governed as did the Founders. For most legislators today the overriding concern is the next election and their power base. Oh, they make grand speeches about the wonderful benefits for the people of their political schemes but then exempt themselves and their cronies from adhering to the laws they pass. The American People because they have no Principles on which to stand fall for the sophistry of the knaves in their government. Senator Rand Paul has proposed the following Amendment to the Constitution of the United States (S.J.Res.25) to force the Congress and President to act virtuously in enacting legislation. It is shameful that an Amendment to the Constitution is necessary to get the representatives of the American People to behave honorably but unfortunately this is where the United States society stands today.
JOINT RESOLUTION Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relative to applying laws equally to the citizens of the United States and the Federal Government. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled (two-thirds of each House concurring therein), That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States: `Article– `Section 1. Congress shall make no law applicable to a citizen of the United States that is not equally applicable to Congress. `Section 2. Congress shall make no law applicable to a citizen of the United States that is not equally applicable to the executive branch of Government, including the President, Vice President, ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, and all other officers of the United States, including those provided for under this Constitution and by law, and inferior officers to the President established by law. `Section 3. Congress shall make no law applicable to a citizen of the United States that is not equally applicable to judges of the Supreme Court of the United States, including the Chief Justice, and judges of such inferior courts as Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. `Section 4. Nothing in this article shall preempt any specific provision of this Constitution.‘.
Every American should write their Senators and Representatives in support of this amendment. It is long past time that the Congress, President and executive staff realize that they too are citizens and although charged with the solemn duty of representing their fellow citizens are none the less no better in the eyes of the law than the janitor that cleans their restrooms. The American People do not elect kings and princes. They elect representatives to secure their rights in government. This amendment is long overdue.
