Abortion: A Product of the Father of Lies
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
By Tom Klocek
Watching the 2022 March for Life, I heard the witness of a woman who had been pressured to have an abortion in her youth. She listed the lies that she was told throughout the process of getting an abortion. Despite being told that she would recover and heal, she is still suffering. She cannot bear children, and she suffers the pain of no children, n0 grandchildren, and the loss of the love she failed to give and as a result does not experience herself.
Think of the lies told about abortion: it’s just a blob of tissue, you’ll recover without problems, it’s an act of love, it’s not murder, it’s your right (to kill your innocent child). They tell you to “follow the science,” yet lie about the humanity of that child from the moment of conception, which SCIENCE has shown to be true for many years. If it were not true, then why would Bernard Nathanson, the founder of the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), when he saw the child on an ultrasound (and long before we had the resolution we have today), give up his lucrative abortion practice and become an avid pro-life advocate? Eventually, Nathanson became a Catholic.
Yet, believe it or not, there are a lot of people who call themselves Christians (and even Catholics) who not only believe that abortion is OK but avidly promote it. Sixty so-called Catholics in the House of Representatives actively support abortion and had the gall to write a letter (“Statement of Principles”) to claim that they were not violating their Catholic faith and were actually supporting the weakest and needy of our nation. The Senate, too, has its pro-abortion advocates among its Catholic and Christian members. The Senate has a member who ran as a “pro-choice pastor,” who was the pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached. The senator proudly tweeted his pro-choice stance. A quote from the Ebenezer Baptist Church website about its Missionary Union claims to support Christ’s mission, “We are ‘Called to Love.’” Additionally, it claims to be carrying on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s legacy. Dr. King also said, “He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetuate it.” If you are truly following God, then you have to recognize that God is THE Creator. He created man in His image and likeness. Abortion is an act of destruction, not creation.
The role of God in the creation of man is a recurring theme in the Bible. For example, Psalm 139:13 says, “For you formed my inward parts, you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” To support the tearing apart of this work of God in the womb, which is what abortion is, is contrary to God and to Jesus’s caution, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15). Anyone who preaches such destruction (and tries to justify it by the Word of God) is a liar and acts in opposition to God and Jesus, His Son, and is working in concert with Satan, the great deceiver.
The party of these pro-murder advocates is the Democrat Party. I single out the Democrats because they have made abortion the centerpiece of their policies, including making the 71% of Americans (which includes Democrats) who believe that some restrictions should be placed on abortion pay for it not only here but in other nations as well. Democrat leaders have professed that there is no place for pro-lifers in their party. Cardinal Dolan (NY) has identified the Democrat Party as the “Party of Death.”
To call oneself pro-abortion and Christian at the same time flies in the face of Jesus’s words, “Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21). Furthermore, the whole premise of Christianity is God’s love and the commandment to love one another. The only love in abortion is self-love to the exclusion of all else, which essentially means you hate everything that is not you, including God. Pope John Paul II wrote: “To claim the right to abortion, infanticide and euthanasia, and to recognize that right in law, means to attribute to human freedom a perverse and evil significance: that of an absolute power over others and against others. This is the death of true freedom: ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin.’ (Jn 8:34).” He also said in his exhortation, Christifideles Laici, “Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights — for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture — is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination.”
Abortion is the polar opposite of an act of love. Abortion is the act of someone who loves self first, also contrary to Christianity, which teaches that we should die to self for love of Jesus and others. Carrying a baby to term and, if necessary, putting it up for adoption is an act of love and sacrifice. There is no sacrifice without love, and there is no love without sacrifice. Killing one’s baby is neither an act of love nor sacrifice. And those who advocate and support it are complicit in this grave sin. They deny the truth of love and life.
We are on the side of the Truth.
