Arizona and Religious Liberty
“Jim Crow for gays”?
Arizona’s legislature passed a bill – awaiting Republican Gov. Jan Brewer’s signature – that would allow Christian business owners to opt out of providing their services for religious reasons. The bill is a response to numerous recent lawsuits against Christian bakers, florists and photographers in which homosexual couples have sought to force those businesses to provide services in violation of conscience and religious liberty. The Leftmedia, of course, is portraying the law as discrimination against the “LGBT community” – a “Jim Crow for gays” – but that “community” is the reason such a law is even on anyone’s mind. The bill’s purpose is not to provide cover for a restaurant to refuse service to homosexuals, it’s to protect Christians from being coerced into affirming through their services that which they object to on religious grounds, such as a same-sex wedding.
