Majority Say It’s Time to Put Boots on the Ground
ISIL’s brutality has America rethinking the threat posed by jihadis and to what extent the U.S. should respond. New data shows a majority not only see ISIL as a major threat but also support U.S. boots on the ground. CBS News polled 1,006 adults and found that 65% of recipients say ISIL represents a major threat, compared to 58% in October. Even more interesting, 57% support deploying U.S. troops, which is up considerably from October (47%) and September (39%). CBS notes, “Support for sending U.S. ground troops to fight ISIS has risen among all partisans, but particularly among Democrats and independents.” Republican support increased from 65% four months ago to 72% today. For Democrats, those numbers were 50% and 39%, and among Independents, 53% and 43%. Is post-911 America finally realizing paper tiger foreign policy isn’t enough? It would appear so. More…
