Surprise! Barack Obama rejected the Keystone pipeline Friday, in a completely expected sop to his ecofascist base. The New York Times reports, “Obama’s denial of the proposed 1,179-mile pipeline, which would have carried 800,000 barrels a day of carbon-heavy petroleum from the Canadian oil sands to the Gulf Coast, comes as he is seeking to build an ambitious legacy on climate change.” And that’s all there is to it. His political agenda includes a legacy climate accord resulting from meetings in Paris next month, and so his long-delayed Keystone decision is perfectly timed to show other countries that he means business. Even if it means kneecapping our own economy.
