Clinton’s ‘Hard Decisions’ End With Failed Ceasefire

Nearly 100 people were killed in weekend bombings.

Any aspiration the U.S. and Russia had of salvaging an already crumbling ceasefire in Syria was surely dashed over the weekend. According to The Washington Post, “Aleppo’s rebel-held eastern neighborhoods were being shaken by the most ferocious aerial attacks there in recent memory. A provisional death toll provided by local nongovernmental organizations suggested at least 85 people had been killed there since early Sunday.”

The bombings contain not only the fingerprints of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad but his Russian proxy fighters as well. In response, the U.S. ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, charged Vladimir Putin’s regime of facilitating war crimes. According to Power, “What Russia is sponsoring and doing is not counter-terrorism. It is barbarism.” She added, “Instead of helping get lifesaving aid to civilians, Russia and Assad are bombing the humanitarian convoys, hospitals and first responders who are trying desperately to keep people alive.”

Hillary Clinton routinely touts her foreign policy credentials as proof she can negotiate a peaceful resolution. But her record is the problem. For example, in an April campaign ad, she claims, “The world a President has to grapple with. Sometimes you can’t even imagine. That’s the job and she’s the one who’s proving she can get it done. Securing a massive reduction in nuclear weapons.” Moreover, according to Hot Air’s John Sexton, “A new Clinton ad, which is airing in seven states this month, echoed the previous claim saying Hillary ‘got the treaty cutting Russia’s nuclear arms.’” How outlandish is this claim? Even CNN isn’t buying it. Sexton adds:

> [A]s Jake Tapper points out nearly all of this is false. It’s true that there is a treaty called New START which sets limits on the number of strategic nuclear weapons Russia can deploy. However that treaty doesn’t say anything about short range nukes or the number of total nuclear weapons Russia can have. It doesn’t require a single nuclear weapon be destroyed. Even more striking, Tapper notes that Russia was already under the agreed limit when the treaty was signed in 2011. Russia has since increased the number of strategic nuclear arms by nearly 200, from 1,537 to 1,735. “Not only did it not cut the number of nuclear weapons,” Tapper says, “there’s actually been an increase.”

Clinton says Donald Trump can’t be trusted to handle nuclear weapons. Yet she looks the other way — and lies about her achievements — while Russia stockpiles warheads and provides resources to Assad. She recently stated, “I’m the only candidate in this race who has been part of the hard decisions to take terrorists off the battlefield. What does that mean? I was part of the national security team that worked with President Obama, developed strategies to fight the terrorists.” Yes. And just look how successful that, like Benghazi, was.
