I am grateful that our nation’s 250th anniversary will be celebrated under an administration that strongly supports American Liberty. But Demo-controlled states and their members of Congress are doing everything they can to undermine the endowment of Liberty, in flagrant violation of their oaths “to support and defend” our Constitution.

On 5 July 1776, the Virginia Convention — which had adopted the state’s first constitution, affirmed its delegate signatures on the Declaration of Independence, and elected Founder Patrick Henry the first governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia — authorized fellow Founder George Wythe to design the state’s seal. On the front of that seal is the now-familiar Roman figure of Virtus (virtue), resting on a spear with sword in hand, treading on defeated Tyranny — a prostrate figure whose crown has fallen. In the margin of the seal below Tyranny is what would become the motto of the Commonwealth: Sic Semper Tyrannis — meaning “thus always to tyrants.”

Virginia forms the bedrock of American Liberty. It is the home state of our Declaration of Independence’s principal author, Thomas Jefferson; our Constitution’s principal author, James Madison; and the leader of the Continental Army and the American Revolution, our first president, George Washington.

But in recent decades, the state has fallen to the dark side, primarily because of the number of Washington, DC, Democrats who have spilled in large numbers into the Northern Virginia counties of Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun. While most Virginia counties are populated by majorities of grassroots conservatives, those three counties, and of course, counties that include the urban centers of Richmond, Charlottesville, and Norfolk, with their legions of white-privileged suburbanites, have besieged the state with their leftist political sludge. That reality has resulted in an uphill battle for “regular folks” to take back their state.

Indeed, if you ever needed evidence that Big Government is a Democrat enrichment scheme, consider that three of the five wealthiest counties in the United States — Loudoun, Falls Church, and Fairfax — are all in the DC suburbs of Northern Virginia.

In 2021, Virginia voters restored their state motto to its old glory with the election of Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin, who defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe, a one-time Bill and Hillary Clinton bagman and a career political hack. McAuliffe, who served as the state’s governor from 2014 until 2018, had been succeeded by Democrat Ralph “Blackface” Northam, but clearly couldn’t resist the trappings of power.

Youngkin ran on a strong parental rights platform but once elected faced a backlash from the leftist gender confusion cult nationwide for repealing regulations on so-called “transgender” students, including those allowing boys to use girls’ restrooms and locker rooms. The Washington Post noted that Youngkin’s actions were part of a national trend, and that, in the year he took office (2022), “at least 300 pieces of legislation” were being considered across the country.

Despite the fact the gender cult is now showing signs of implosion, the leftist Rainbow Mafia never retreated in Virginia, making it impossible last year for Youngkin’s Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, a weak candidate, to defeat slick and sleazy Rep. Abigail “Bait-n-Switch” Spanberger, another suburban Northern Virginia leftist.

Spanberger — or as she is known around our office, “Spamburger,” for pretending to be something she is not — is a New Jersey native who moved to Virginia as a teenager when her father took a job as a Postal Inspector. After earning degrees from the University of Virginia and Purdue University, she became a teacher at the Islamic Saudi Academy in Fairfax. In 2006, she went to work for the CIA for eight years, recruiting foreign nationals as information conduits for our government. Apparently, that is where she perfected her skills as a pretender.

Spanberger then joined the leftist Emerge America outfit in San Francisco, recruiting Democrat women to run for office. She then decided to do so herself after receiving an appointment from McAuliffe in 2017. Declaring, “I’m gonna run, and I’m gonna f***ing win” in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, which includes DC suburbs, she narrowly defeated Republican Nick Freitas, a former VA House of Delegates member and Army SF combat Veteran, who has since become a noted conservative social media influencer.

She narrowly won her next two terms with the help of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, Biden becoming the first Democrat to win the 7th Congressional District since 1948 — a harbinger for what has happened in Northern Virginia. In Congress, she excelled as a member of the LGBT Equality Caucus, and it’s no coincidence that while in DC, she bunked with now-New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill.

In a 2020 meeting with then-Governor Blackface, he seeded the idea that she should run for his office one day, and that she did in 2025. In Spanberger’s campaign against Earle-Sears, she won a landslide 58%, carrying 99% of Harris’s 2024 voters.

Spanberger campaigned hard against Donald Trump’s ICE tactics last fall, the terrible optics of which the Trump administration did not get right until January, as Spanberger was taking office. She also campaigned hard on so-called “climate change,” another emotive draw for Demo voters.

No surprise that once in office, the Great Pretender ran hard left. As noted by our political analyst Brian Mark Weber, “It didn’t take long after Spanberger’s inauguration for Democrats in Virginia to start rolling out their radical agenda to remake the Old Dominion state.”

Weber notes:

Democrats have introduced a dizzying array of bills mandating sales taxes on Amazon deliveries and Uber Eats, free education for illegal aliens, internet voting, higher income tax brackets, forbidding the arrest of illegals in courthouses, a per-mile driving tax, and replacing Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. One of the more outrageous proposals is removing minimum mandatory sentencing for criminals charged with rape, manslaughter, and possessing child pornography. As for the crackdown on illegal aliens, Spanberger signed an executive order on her first day in office to prevent law enforcement cooperation with ICE, ironically citing public safety concerns. According to The Washington Times, “Now, when liberal judges turn loose criminals who are also illegal aliens, they will be released onto the streets instead of being returned to their home countries.”

Even Meghan McCain took on the Spanberger bait-and-switch, declaring, “Screw any and all of you who lied to low information voters and sold Abigail Spanberger as some kind of moderate. She’s been in office like 6 hours and is already trying to turn Virginia into Minneapolis.”

Notably this week, Spanberger is feeling the political fallout of her illegal immigrant “sanctuary state” pandering. One such illegal, Abdul Jalloh, walking free in Virginia despite 30 prior arrests, is now charged with the random murder of Stephanie Minter at a Fairfax bus stop. Spanberger’s office says she will not honor the ICE detainer for Jalloh.

DHS issued a statement protesting: “Sanctuary [Gov. Abigail Spanberger] is fighting to protect a MURDERER over American citizens. This monster is responsible for fatally stabbing Stephanie Minter. ICE will continue to arrest and remove criminal illegal aliens across the Commonwealth while Governor Spanberger RELEASES them from jails into Virginia communities to commit more crimes and create more victims.”

For the record, Jalloh, whose arrests include four stabbings, two assaults, and a rape, did spend two years behind bars for previously stabbing a 73-year-old man, but the remaining five years of his sentence were suspended, much to the detriment of Stephanie Minter and her family.

This controversy has emerged on the heels of Democrat Party socialists choosing Spanberger as their rising star, platforming her for a blustering reply to Trump’s State of the Union.

Spanberger framed her rebuttal on three questions: “Is the president working to make life more affordable for you and your family? Is the president working to keep Americans safe at home and abroad? Is the president working for you?”

The answer to the first question is yes. But he will have to stay on his affordability message in order to counter the Demo/Leftmedia propaganda to the contrary.

As for the second question on keeping America safe, again, yes. Poor Spanberger had no idea that just days after her dog and pony show, Israel and the U.S. would launch Operation Epic Fury. And in regard to protest from Demo armchair experts that there was no “imminent threat” from Iran, anyone with a modicum of knowledge about strategic operations knows that if you wait for an imminent threat, you have waited too long.

And third, yes, Trump is working for America and has been all along. Again, if he stays on message, he will move the voter confidence needle in the right direction ahead of elections this fall.

As for Spamburger, she is now ascending the ranks of the authoritarian enemies of Liberty, ensuring that the number of Virginians experiencing buyer’s remorse will grow.

Footnote: On the subject of parental rights versus the gender cult, Spanberger should take note that the Supreme Court has blocked California’s ban on notifying parents about gender mutilations, thus protecting kids from groomers.
