‘Unity,’ They Said. ‘Lower the Temperature,’ They Cried.
Except Biden and his Democrat Party/Leftmedia lackeys neglect to say that this applies to them also.
President Joe Biden, who may or may not be stepping aside soon as the presumed Democrat presidential nominee, has often cited his desire to be a unifying figure. That illusion was quickly shattered and solidified in the minds of the American people after his blood-red, Nazi-esque speech in 2022 in front of Independence Hall, where he railed against his fellow Americans as authoritarians and a “threat to democracy™.” Yet he is baffled as to why the country is still divided.
Even as recently as Wednesday, Biden said, “Look, when I originally ran … I said I was going to be a transitional candidate, and I thought that I would be able to move from this and pass it on to someone else. But I didn’t anticipate things getting so, so, so divided, and quite frankly, I think the only thing age brings [is] a little bit of wisdom, and I think I’ve demonstrated that. I know how to get things done for the country.”
What Biden has been throughout his presidency (if you believe that it’s actually him running the show) is divisive, radical, and weak. His entire 2024 campaign has been about dehumanizing Donald Trump, conservatives, and MAGA. His leftist Hollywood and media coteries have followed suit.
To quote the erudite historian Victor Davis Hanson:
Since at least 2016 there has been a parlor game among Leftist celebrities and entertainers joking (one hopes), dreaming, imagining, and just talking about the various and graphic ways they would like to assassinate or seriously injure Trump:
By slugging his face (Robert De Niro), by decapitation (Kathy Griffin, Marilyn Manson), by stabbing (Shakespeare in the Park), by clubbing (Mickey Rourke), by shooting ( Snoop Dogg), by poisoning (Anthony Bourdain), by bounty killing (George Lopez), by carrion eating his corpse (Pearl Jam), by suffocating (Larry Whilmore), by blowing him up (Madonna, Moby), by throwing him over a cliff (Rosie O'Donnell), just by generic “killing” him (Johnny Depp, Big Sean), or by martyring him (Reid Hoffman: “Yeah, I wish I had made him an actual martyr.”).
Hanson also mentions the New Republic’s Trump/Hitler cover mashup and MSNBC’s Joy Reid’s unhinged commentary.
But after the assassination attempt against Trump last Saturday, Biden remarked, “Disagreement is inevitable in American democracy. … While we may disagree, we are not enemies. We’re neighbors, we’re friends, coworkers, citizens, and most importantly, we are fellow Americans. We must stand together.” He also called for lowering the rhetorical temperature (but notably excluded himself from that prescription).
What do Biden and his fellow travelers mean by “unity”? Generally, it means they want everyone to agree with them … or else. It means they’ll use lawfare, speech suppression, and election rigging to concentrate power. Ironically, they put on a false veneer of unified coalitions that crumble very quickly when put to the real ideological test. (See the pro-Hamas protesters vs. “Pride” parade attendees.)
Trump and the Republican Party are also talking about unifying our very divided America. On Wednesday, for example, World War II veteran Sgt. William Pekrul made this very powerful statement: “America, people say, is an idea. But I believe America is much more than that. America is our home.”
If America is our home, is it not worth fighting for? According to the radical Left, no, it’s not. The home, the family, the male/female binary, Rule of Law, Liberty — these are all so-called social constructs, relics of the grand experiment called the United States of America. Leftists wish to upend society and remake American culture in their own image.
Unity is only meaningful if it’s suffused with Liberty. And Liberty is only possible within the bounds of a society that has rules, a common culture, and a common set of values.
The GOP is unifying under the flag of Liberty and fighting for our home that we love so much. A home that we don’t wish to see brought irreparably low by the weak and divisive leadership of the Biden administration.
