RNC: Kamala Is a Dangerous Liberal Masquerading as a Moderate
Harris has been radical her entire career — now she wants to cover up her past to get elected.
By the Republican National Committee
MAKE NO MISTAKE, HARRIS’ VALUES HAVE NOT CHANGED
- According to the Voteview Project, [Kamala] Harris is the second most liberal senator of the 21st century.
- Based on her senatorial voting record, Harris is more progressive than Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden.
- During her time as senator, Harris ranked more liberal on economic issues than even Senator Bernie Sanders.
- Harris has a lifetime score of 4 percent from the American Conservative Union.
- In 2019, GovTrack ranked Harris as the number one most liberal U.S. senator.
- As San Francisco District Attorney and California Attorney General, Harris supported sanctuary cities and refused to seek the death penalty for the most egregious crimes.
- As a presidential candidate for the 2020 election, Harris supported decriminalizing border crossings, eliminating private health insurance, a ban on fracking, the Green New Deal, reparations, defund the police, and a host of other progressive policies.
- But now as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, Harris is walking back her most extreme positions and pretending she can wipe away her past to appeal to moderate Americans.
- Progressives acknowledge she is deliberately running away from past policy positions to appear more electable, but still support her because they know how she will act as president.
- As President Trump put it, “She went from communism to capitalism in about two weeks.”
HARRIS WANTS YOU TO FORGET SHE HAS BEEN THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR 3.5 YEARS
- During her CNN interview, Harris repeatedly spoke negatively of the past, arguing she would “turn the page on the last decade of what I believe has been contrary to where the spirit of our country really lies.”
- Democrats have held the executive office for six past of the past ten years.
- Harris herself has been the vice president for a third of the past decade, and we’ve kept her policy receipts.
HARRIS IS A LONG-STANDING OPPONENT OF FRACKING
- In her last days as California Attorney General, Harris sued the Obama administration for allowing fracking off the California coast.
- In 2016, Harris said “I’m very skeptical of fracking.”
- In 2019, while running for president, Harris said in a CNN town hall, “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking.
- Harris then added, "We have to just acknowledge that the residual impact of fracking is enormous in terms of the health and safety of communities.”
- In 2020, Harris told Jimmy Fallon she was committed to “finally putting an end to fracking once and for all.”
- Now, Harris claims, “What I have seen is that we can grow, and we can increase a clean energy economy without banning fracking.”
- Harris argues she made her position on fracking “clear on the debate stage in 2020,” but what she actually said in 2020 was that Joe Biden “will not end fracking.”
- When pressed in an interview about what made her change, Harris dodged the question and replied, “My values have not changed.”
- Presumably Harris flipped her position after realizing her real stance on fracking would cost votes in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania.
HARRIS IS IGNORING HER PAST RADICAL ACTIVISM ON CLIMATE CHANGE
- As senator, Kamala Harris cosponsored the radical $93 trillion Green New Deal with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
- Harris: “I support a Green New Deal.”
- Harris: “We must have and adopt a Green New Deal.”
- During her failed presidential run, Harris said she would support eliminating the filibuster to pass the Green New Deal.
- In the 2020 presidential primaries, Harris said that her Green New Deal is the “most aggressive and progressive.”
- Harris was the first Democrat presidential candidate to endorse the Green New Deal.
- Now, Harris is barely mentioning climate change.
- Kevin Book, managing director of CleanView Energy Partners, says, “This doesn’t look accidental, it looks like a deliberate choice … It’s a divisive issue and they need both sides as much as possible to win Pennsylvania.”
- When asked about the Green New Deal on CNN, Harris wouldn’t definitively comment on her views and pivoted to the Inflation Reduction Act.
HARRIS IS NOT AND NEVER HAS BEEN A BORDER HAWK
- For years, Harris has repeatedly said that “an undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.”
- In 2016, Harris even said that she would get rid of the term “illegal alien.”
- Harris has advocated for decriminalizing border crossings, saying “we will not treat people who are undocumented and who cross the border as criminals.”
- At a primary debate in 2019, Harris raised her hand in favor of decriminalizing illegal border crossings.
- Harris said that an illegal immigrant “should not be deported” if they don’t commit a crime.
- Harris criticized President Trump’s plan to deport illegal immigrants as “outrageous,” “ridiculous,” and “crazy.”
- Harris was the first senator to call for President Trump’s DHS Secretary to resign because of his “Zero Tolerance” policy on illegal immigration.
- But suddenly Harris wants voters to believe she’s the president to secure the border.
- An ad from the Harris campaign states, “As president, she will hire thousands more border agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking. Fixing the border is tough. So is Kamala Harris.”
- In her CNN interview with Dana Bash, Harris said, “We have laws that have to be followed and enforced that address and deal with people who cross our border illegally, and there should be consequence.”
- Yet Harris hasn’t enforced violations of immigration law for the past 3.5 years that she has been vice president and border czar.
HARRIS IS AN ELIMINATION OF PRIVATE HEALTHCARE SOCIALIST
- Harris was the first Democrat to co-sponsor Bernie Sanders’ socialist health care plan, which would cost over $32 trillion and raise taxes on the middle-class.
- Harris called co-sponsoring the bill that would eliminate private health insurance “the right thing to do” and said that it “makes sense from a fiscal standpoint.”
- Harris said “I support” ending private health insurance as her “preferred policy,” and that she specifically “support[s] the bill” introduced by Bernie Sanders.
- Harris was an original co-sponsor for Bernie Sanders’ bills to eliminate private health insurance in 2017 and 2019.
- Harris said that the bill to eliminate private health insurance would be “the ultimate and great place to be.”
- Harris expressed support for a single-payer health care system in California.
- Harris and Bernie Sanders were the only Democrat presidential candidates in 2019 who acknowledged they would abolish their private health insurance for a government-issued plan.
- But at the risk of appearing too progressive, Harris is suddenly backing away from years-long support for a radical overhaul of the health care system
- An anonymous campaign official told Politico that eliminating private health insurance is no longer a part of Harris’ agenda.
HARRIS DOESN’T LIKE YOUR GAS-POWERED CAR
- As senator, Harris backed the Zero-Emission Vehicles Act of 2019, a “bold plan for transitioning the United States to 100% zero-emission vehicles.”
- After 2040, the legislation would have given the EPA administrator the power to “issue an injunction on the manufacture of any passenger vehicles other than zero emission vehicles by a vehicle manufacturer.”
- In 2020, her presidential platform called for banning internal combustion engine cars by 2035.
- As vice-president, Harris pushed for EPA regulations that are expected to make more than two-thirds of passenger cars and light trucks sold electric or hybrid by 2032.
- In December 2021, Harris tweeted, “to meet our climate goals, we must invest in zero emission vehicles,” adding that the Harris-Biden admin was “making the largest-ever investment in electric vehicle infrastructure and technology in our nation’s history with our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”
- In December 2023, Harris later touted the administration’s efforts to build 500,000 electric vehicle chargers.
- By June of 2024, only seven of those 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations had been built.
- In December 2023, Harris later touted the administration’s efforts to build 500,000 electric vehicle chargers.
- Despite her years-long support, her campaign now claims that “Vice President Harris does not support an electric vehicle mandate.”
HARRIS WANTS TO TAKE YOUR GUNS
- While running for president in 2019, Harris declared her support for a national mandatory gun buyback program for up to 10 million assault weapons.
- Harris pledged to implement a gun buyback program through executive action if Congress would not pass legislation.
- Harris: “I do believe that we need to do buybacks … A buyback program is a good idea … When elected, if Congress fails to act, I’ll give them 100 days to put a bill on my desk for signature. And if they do not do it, I will put in place by executive action a comprehensive background check requirement and a ban on the assault weapons and importation of assault weapons.”
- After Joe Biden criticized Harris’ plan, Harris laughed and replied, “Hey Joe, instead of saying no we can’t, let’s say yes we can.”
- In 2023, Harris praised gun control laws in Australia, where citizens do not have a legal right to gun ownership and where a mass gun confiscation took place in the 1990s.
- Now, Harris campaign officials claim that Harris no longer supports a mandatory buyback program.
HARRIS PRETENDS SHE WASN’T THE BORDER CZAR
- In March 2021, Harris was crowned “border czar.”
- Biden: “She’s leading the effort.”
- Over the next few months, several media outlets, including those now claiming Harris wasn’t tasked with curbing illegal immigration, called Harris the “border czar.”
- Under her watch, the U.S. experienced a record-breaking migration crisis.
- In April 2021 – the first full month since Harris officially assumed her role – illegal crossings had shot up 128 percent compared to the month she took office.
- Illegal crossings nearly doubled during her tenure, reaching over 300,000 in a single month.
- For 39 months straight, illegal apprehensions were higher than even the highest month under President Trump.
- Illegal crossings under Harris’ leadership have averaged roughly 200,000 per month – compared to just 50,000 per month under President Trump.
- Now the Harris campaign and the media are walking back Harris’ role in controlling immigration.
HARRIS WON’T SAY BIDENOMICS
- Harris spent months praising Bidenomics, which has brought 40-year highs in inflation, record housing unaffordability, and skyrocketing consumer debt.
- Harris: “That is called Bidenomics, and we are very proud of Bidenomics.”
- Now, Harris won’t even say Bidenomics.
- Harris knows she can’t run on her economic record as vice president.
- Harris’ economic campaign ads focus on what she will do, not what she has done, because voters are still extremely pessimistic about the Harris-Biden economy.
HARRIS DOESN’T HAVE GOOD IDEAS, SO SHE STEALS PRESIDENT TRUMP’S
- With illegal immigration a top issue for this election, Harris has suddenly proclaimed that she will sign into law a bipartisan border wall bill, despite opposing the border wall for years.
- Trump first pushed for a border wall in 2016 and it has long been a signature policy position.
- During his presidency, Trump built over 400 miles worth of a wall along the southern border and has vowed to finish the wall when reelected.
- Harris opposed Trump’s border wall, calling it a “medieval vanity project.”
- Harris mocked President Trump’s border wall, saying “it couldn’t be farther from the truth” that terrorists “are trying to invade the country.”
- Harris called building a wall “the height of irresponsibility.”
- Harris said that “I’m not going to vote for a wall under any circumstances,” even in exchange for permanent protections for DACA.
- On her first day in office, the Harris-Biden administration halted construction of the border wall.
- In June, President Trump announced he would end taxes on tips.
- Months later, Harris announced that she too supports ending taxes on tips, plagiarizing President Trump.
- On August 11th, President trump’s running mate J.D. Vance said, “I’d love to see a child tax credit that’s $5,000 per child.”
- Five days later, Harris announced she supported a $6,000 tax credit for parents of newborns and an increase to $3,600 for children after their first year.
- Yet as senator, Harris voted against President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which doubled the child tax credit.
