Civil Disobedience in Connecticut
Gun owners say “molon labe.”
In response to the Sandy Hook murders, Connecticut lawmakers hastily enacted a gun control law that mandates “assault weapon” registration. Suffice it to say that didn’t go over well with most gun owners. So, rather than comply, they’re staging a revolt of civil disobedience. Around 50,000 applications have been submitted, meaning somewhere between 20,000 and 100,000 residents are technically committing felonies for missing the deadline. And lawmakers are stumped. State Sen. Tony Guglielmo admitted, “I honestly thought … that the vast majority would register. If you pass laws that people have no respect for and they don’t follow them, then you have a real problem.” No, the real problem is bad law written by legislators with no respect for constitutional rights. To them we say: molon labe.
