Syria Talks Failing
To John Kerry’s surprise.
Entirely predictably, peace talks with Syria have gone precisely nowhere. Cue Secretary of State John Kerry’s complete and utter surprise. “Right now,” he said, “Bashar Assad has not engaged in the discussions along the promised and required standard that both Russia spoke up for and the regime spoke up for.” Worse, he added, “It is very clear that Bashar Assad is trying to win this on the battlefield instead of coming to the negotiating table in good faith.” Kerry also expressed disappointment that Russia is supplying arms to its client state. But Russia has nothing to lose by thumbing its nose at Barack Obama’s “reset” button. Obama has made the U.S. weak, and no one is more surprised that Captain Louis Renault, er, John Kerry.
