ATF Subpoenaed
“Dangerously mismanaged” operation.
In December, news came to light that the ATF was operating in at least four cities by setting up rogue storefronts to sell guns, using mentally challenged men as unwitting marks to buy and sell arms, and then arresting those men for their involvement. Frustrated by stonewalling from the most transparent administration ever, House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) finally subpoenaed the ATF for information on the program, which he called “dangerously mismanaged.” ATF Deputy Director Tom Brandon admits that “there were deficiencies with the storefront operations,” but he insists that “there have been many successes and it still remains a viable technique when managed well.” No, this particular operation would be even worse were it “managed well.”
