House: ‘Light ‘Em Up’
Medical marijuana is a state’s issue.
Here’s one for the Tenth Amendment. The Republican-led house approved an amendment affirming the state’s rights to create their own medical marijuana programs. The Department of Justice pinky-promised it wouldn’t enforce the federal government’s ban on marijuana where the states allowed medical marijuana. But we all know how reliable the government can be with its promises and guidelines. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (D-CA) told NPR, “Some people are suffering, and if a doctor feels that he needs to prescribe something to alleviate that suffering, it is immoral for this government to get in the way. The state governments have recognized that a doctor has a right to treat his patient any way he sees fit, and so did our Founding Fathers.” Furthermore, it’s a move that puts Congress in its rightful, constitutional place, setting policy and telling the DOJ what to enforce.
