IRS Violated Records Act
The IRS broke the Federal Records Act.
During a hearing on Capitol Hill about the lost emails of former-IRS official Lois Lerner, Archivist of the U.S. David Ferriero told lawmakers the IRS “did not follow the law” when it recycled Lerner’s hard drive. Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) asked Ferriero if the IRS violated the Federal Records Act because it did not report the destruction of the hard drive to the National Archives. “They are required – any agency is required to notify us when they realize that they have a problem that could be destruction or disposal, an unauthorized disposal,” Ferriero said.
