‘Phony Scandals’ Redux
Obama downplays malfeasance.
“Sometimes the news that’s coming on, these are just Washington fights. They are fabricated issues, they are phony scandals that are generated,” Barack Obama told supporters. “It’s all geared towards the next election, or ginning up a base. It’s not on the level. And that must feel frustrating, and it makes people cynical and it makes people turned off from the idea that anything can get done.” It wasn’t exactly clear which “phony scandals” Obama was referring to, but the list is certainly long. There’s the IRS scandal, the Benghazi scandal and the VA scandal, not to mention the meltdown in Iraq. And those are just recent scandals. He’s right about one thing, though: People are growing ever more cynical about his administration, though he has no one to (legitimately) blame but himself.
