Democrats Despicably Vilify Republicans on Immigration
During Friday’s debate on the House immigration bill, Democrats essentially became hecklers in their own chamber, hurling vile insults at their Republican colleagues. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) cried, “It is almost as if they despise all of our children,” adding that Republicans find Hispanics “repugnant.” Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) complained, “[W]hen 50,000 minors, one tenth of one percent of the total number [of the world’s refugees], arrive at our border, my Republican friends have a collective hissy fit. Is this really the face of America that we want the rest of the world to see?” He went on to call them “petty and mean and small.” Taking it to another level, Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-CA) thundered, “Republicans want to indiscriminately return children to their deaths!” Such hysterics make great theater and no doubt play well with Democrats’ base, but their charges are about as far from reality as they can be.
