The Three Year Strategy Against ISIL

The president finally has a strategy for defeating ISIL. The New York Times reports, “The Obama administration is preparing to carry out a campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria that may take three years to complete, requiring a sustained effort that could last until after President Obama has left office, according to senior administration officials.” So in other words, his strategy is at least partly going to be up to the next president. Also, the Times, reports, “Unlike the war in Afghanistan, it will not include the use of ground troops, which Mr. Obama has ruled out.” Just ignore the 1,000 American soldiers in Iraq right now. We’ve certainly argued that this is a Long War, but that’s not exactly the vision Obama has here. More…
