Internet Sales Tax Rears Its Ugly Head
Last year, the Senate pushed a bill that would apply sales tax to online marketers. Now they tacked that legislation to another piece of Internet legislation that bans state and local governments from taxing access to the Internet. This combines a good law – the freedom to access the wealth of knowledge on the Internet – with a bad law. It’s not like Congress is looking for a new tax stream. They want the tax to make things “fair” for the small, local retail shops. “That’s a dangerous combination,” Steve DelBianco, Executive Director of NetChoice, said. “I hope the House stays strong.
