Notorious RBG Plans to Stay on SCOTUS
The Women’s magazine Elle asked Supreme Court Justice Notorious RBG, a.k.a. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, if she will retire before the end of Obama’s term so that another, just like her, could rise to her place on the bench. Notorious RBG shot back with an Oh heck no. “Who do you think President Obama could appoint at this very day, given the boundaries that we have? If I resign any time this year,” Ginsburg said, “he could not successfully appoint anyone I would like to see in the court. [The Senate Democrats] took off the filibuster for lower federal court appointments, but it remains for this court. So anybody who thinks that if I step down, Obama could appoint someone like me, they’re misguided. As long as I can do the job full steam… I think I’ll recognize when the time comes that I can’t any longer. But now I can.” Just a couple more years, and maybe then, the winds of politics will change and Notorious RBG will hang up her jabot. But if Republicans were to keep the Senate for several years?
