Deserting Marine to Face Trial
In 2004, Cpl. Wassef Hassoun deserted the Marine Corps while serving in Fallujah, Iraq. He ended up in Lebanon, where he was born and raised, claiming to have been abducted by jihadis. After he was brought to the U.S. to face charges, he disappeared again, eventually being found once again in Lebanon. Now, CBS News reports, “Maj. Gen. William D. Beydler has referred 34-year-old Cpl. Wassef Hassoun for a general court-martial on charges of desertion, larceny and destruction of government property, according to a news release from the Marines. No date has been set for Hassoun’s trial at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, where he is being held.” Meanwhile, whatever happened to Bowe Bergdahl?
