‘How Much Does the Gov’t Spend Per Hour?’
MRCTV’s Dan Joseph traveled the streets of Washington, DC, to ask random passersby how much they thought the federal government spent per hour. One guessed around $400,000, another calculated, “Probably like up to thousands of millions of dollars.” Several said around $1 million and one said $10 million. Eh, not even close. Joseph broke down the numbers, explaining that the $3.5 trillion spent annually by the federal government means that $400,000,000 is spent every hour. That money comes out of taxpayers’ wallets, yet few know how much the government spends, and exactly nobody can account for every penny in accounts payable. This wouldn’t have to be the case if Americans viewed government affairs in the same way they view a household budget.
