Obama Lied About Keystone Pipeline
Barack Obama’s opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline is based on a lie. Sure, the measure died in the Senate by one vote because Democrats were more beholden to radical environmentalists than members of their own caucus. But if Sen. Mary Landrieu found that one Democrat vote, the bill would have ended up on Obama’s desk – where he would have pulled out his veto pen. During a press conference in Australia, Obama said of Keystone, “I won’t hide my opinion about this, which is that one major determinant of whether we should approve a pipeline shipping Canadian oil to world markets, not to the United States, is does it contribute to the greenhouse gases that are causing climate change?” But the Washington Post’s Fact Checker blog awarded this statement three Pinocchio’s because it contained major factual errors and contradictions. Obama’s own State Department released a report saying more than two-thirds of oil refined on the Gulf Coast is used domestically.
