Republicans Side With Obama in ISIL Fight Authorization
Congressional authorization giving Barack Obama the ability to wage a greater war against the Islamic State of Syria and the Levant moved out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and onto the Senate body. The White House asked for broad powers to wage war, to send troops, to take this fight to more than just Iraq and Syria. However, Democrats voted against their president and approved the measure. Republicans voted against the bill because – get this – the measure limits the power of Obama to wage war. Before the vote, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) told the committee, “The role we play is in deciding whether or not we should go into war, but our role is not to decide how to go to war. It is up to the commander in chief to carry out this war.” The conflict against ISIL could very well morph into a fight against the chemical-weapon-using, civilian-murdering Syrian government because there is evidence the two are not fighting each other to choke the moderate Syrian rebels.
