Bill Nye's Twisted Logic
Even as the first flakes began to fall ahead of a major nor'easter that dropped several feet of snow across portions of New England, Bill “The Science Lie” Nye appeared on MSNBC to label the storm a byproduct of man-made global warming. “I just want to introduce the idea that this storm is connected to climate change,” suggested Nye. “I know there’ll be certain viewers who will become unglued, they’re throwing things at their television sets, and so on. But the economic effect of storms like this is huge!” We’ll give him the last part – big storms do have a paralyzing effect on commerce, just as they did for millennia before man-made warming supposedly resulted in more virulent storms. So what on God’s green earth does this one have to do with human activity? Nye embarrassed himself further by contradicting himself. “You can’t cancel half the flights out of … one of the world’s busiest airports” and expect to bypass the economic ramifications, he continued, referring to air hubs like LaGuardia. Therefore communities must develop the proper infrastructure to prevent shutdowns. Fortunately for us, he added, “We’re in the developed world where we can handle this stuff.” But didn’t he just explain why we weren’t? Bottom line: We’ll only be as prepared as doomsayers say we are based on political expediency.
