Kayla Mueller was an American kidnapped and held hostage by ISIL, before being killed while in ISIL custody. The jihadis claim she was killed by a Jordanian airstrike, but the truth may never be known. Either way, clearly Americans sympathize with her case, as Barack Obama claimed she represented an “irrepressible force of human goodness.” But the truth is a bit more complicated. Taking after Rachel Corrie, the American activist for the Palestinian “cause” killed by an Israeli bulldozer, Mueller was a member of the International Solidarity Movement (so was Corrie) and she was in the Middle East in the first place because of her Palestinian sympathies.
