Refugees are flooding the Mediterranean, trying to escape the growing chaos in North Africa. Sometimes, that results in disaster. The Washington Post reports, “The United Nations refugee agency estimated Tuesday that as many as 850 migrants had gone to their deaths in a boat capsizing earlier this week off the coast of Libya. … [It’s] the single worst involving the flow of migrants seeking to reach Europe across the Mediterranean Sea.” In April alone, as many as 1,500 people have been lost at sea.
Libya’s descent into near anarchy is a major factor in this tragic loss of life. And Investor’s Business Daily asks the salient question: “Why isn’t Hillary Clinton, the architect of U.S. Libya policy, answering questions?” After all, at the behest of Barack Obama, it was then-Secretary of State Clinton’s “smart power” strategy that led (from behind) to Moammar Gadhafi’s ouster. While a loathsome dictator who had perpetrated and supported anti-U.S. terrorism, Gadhafi was also cooperating and disarming after the U.S. invasion of Iraq convinced him it was in his interests to do so. Radical Islamists quickly gained a foothold in Libya, and soon four Americans were killed in Benghazi, while jihadis have also very publicly murdered dozens of Christians. Estimates are that some 500,000 refugees will head for Europe this year, as the Obama-Clinton strategy continues to lead to chaos and bloodshed. Will voters reward Clinton with the White House?
