Clinton, Bush Suffer Negative Associations
Hillary: “liar,” “dishonest” and “untrustworthy.”
A new Quinnipiac University poll spells trouble for two candidates seeking a rematch (of sorts) of the 1992 election: Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush. First, Hillary’s overall numbers are down from 55% in July to 45% now, which can only add to Bill Clinton’s agitation at the idea of a Joe Biden run. But perhaps more worrisome is the open-ended question, “What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Hillary Clinton?” The top three responses — by a wide margin — are “liar,” “dishonest” and “untrustworthy.” Other words that make a good showing are “crook,” deceitful" and “criminal,” as well as one we won’t reprint but rhymes with witch. All of it pretty well sums up her record, but the fact that she’s still the frontrunner says more about Democrat voters than the woman herself.
As for Bush, “What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Jeb Bush?” The top response — again, by a wide margin — was “Bush.” Surely we’re not alone in finding that humorous as well as revealing. His name is both his greatest asset and his biggest liability. Even his mother once said, “We’ve had enough Bushes.” That’s a tough argument to beat.
