Islamic State Entrenches Itself in Libya
That was some "smart power."
What did Barack Obama say a few days ago about the Islamic State being contained? Unfortunately, the Islamic State in Libya is now no longer a JV team; it is a full-fledged satellite operation of the group currently battling the western coalition in Iraq and Syria. According to The New York Times, the Libyan city of Surt — 400 miles from Sicily — is under control of the Islamic State. The group is now enforcing its harsh Sharia laws, including such hallmarks as beheading men accused of sorcery. Reports indicate leaders and money flow easily from the territory in Libya to the group’s territory in Syria and Iraq. What did Barack Obama say a few days ago about the group being contained? This allows the group a place where it could retreat to in case the coalition in Syria pushes it from its territory. And to think former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged war in Libya, destabilizing the nation by pushing for the ouster of the country’s dictator without a follow-up plan — all because of some business opportunities and Obama’s re-election. One thing is for certain: She cannot legitimately claim on the campaign trail that she deployed “smart power” in the country.
