If a time of national emergency comes when enemies are landing upon our shores and the U.S. government restarts the draft, will the nation be comfortable with putting a rifle into the hands of an 18-year-old girl, telling her its her duty to charge into the enemy’s ranks? Is that a country worth fighting for? The Obama administration has already decided that every combat role should be open to women, for equality’s sake. And lawmakers have taken that decision to its logical conclusion because it’s a decision the Obama administration cannot make on its own. Reps. Duncan Hunter and Ryan Zinke introduced a bill that would require women to sign up with the Selective Service. If the government decides it needs more boots on the ground, the bill would make it so the government can require both men and women to go to war.

Hunter said in a statement, “It’s wrong and irresponsible to make wholesale changes to the way America fights its wars without the American people having a say on whether their daughters and sisters will be on the front lines of combat. If this Administration wants to send 18-20 year old women into combat, to serve and fight on the front lines, then the American people deserve to have this discussion through their elected representatives. … It’s unfortunate that a bill like this even needs to be introduced. And it’s legislation that I might very well vote against should it be considered during the annual defense authorization process.” Unfortunately, the Obama administration continues to treat the U.S. military as its test tube for liberal policies, disregarding the collective morality of Americans and, more importantly, national security.
