ICE Gets Tough on Deportations … For Now
Women and children first.
Women and children are the focus for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a series of raids scheduled for May and June. For the Obama administration the move seems antithetical to the Left’s strategy of courting the goodwill of illegal immigrants. What ever happened to getting the worst of the worst out of the country — the gangbangers, the rapists, the illegal immigrants who were deported multiple times yet continue to hop the fence? The administration was even failing with that, releasing almost 20,000 criminal aliens from its custody last year. It seems like a situation that gives the Left a field day to eviscerate the United States’ immigration laws. After all, how is it defensible to let criminals go free while women and children are rounded up?
In a statement, ICE explained its planned raids: “To promote and protect border security, our priorities include those apprehended crossing the border illegally after January 1, 2014. This includes single adults, as well as adults who bring their children with them.” Furthermore, the illegal immigrants ICE will target either ignored court orders to return to their country of origin or simply didn’t show up for their scheduled court appearances.
In other words, these illegal immigrants made their way into the country during the surge of unaccompanied alien minors and did not convince our legal system that they deserved asylum from violence in their home country. ICE is doing its job — enforcing Rule of Law. But the situation is designed by the Left to get as much political mileage as possible.
