Schumer’s Poor War of Words

Sen. Tom Cotton gives the old Demo guard a royal smackdown.

In a recent piece trumpeting his clampdown on Donald Trump’s nominees, The Hill reported that “Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) has emerged as a champion of the left since the election.” That’s probably true, and most certainly very revealing — but not in a good way. After all, the Left’s very definition of “champion” is disturbingly naïve.

A real champion is a young Patriot breed by the name of Sen. Tom Cotton. On Friday, the Iraq and Afghanistan veteran expressed his displeasure with Schumer, who deceivingly punted on CIA nominee Mike Pompeo’s confirmation vote. According to The Washington Free Beacon, “Schumer explained his position, saying the Senate had never confirmed a CIA director on Inauguration Day and that if [Cotton] had been in the Senate eight years ago, he would have known that Republicans had tried to stall President Obama’s selection at the time.” Bad move. Cotton reportedly retorted, “Eight years ago, I was getting my ass shot at in Afghanistan. So don’t talk to me about where I was eight years ago.”

And just like that, the old Demo guard received a royal smackdown. This was more than a floor dustup; it was symbolic of how the new breed of Republicans need to conduct business. But the issue is not so much the moment on the floor as this is how business needs to be conducted against these corrupt politicians who most certainly aren’t worthy of the title “champion.” It is time that Schumer and others no longer enjoy the gentlemen’s club protocols — take them down.
