Obama’s Meddling Ways?
Republicans call for investigation of whether he tried to influence foreign elections.
Several Republican senators sent a letter to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson requesting that the State Department open up an immediate and full scale investigation into whether the Obama administration engaged in political meddling by attempting to sway foreign elections through the funding of “extreme and sometimes violent political activists.” Specifically, the senators are seeking to determine if indeed U.S. taxpayer dollars were used to help finance foreign leftist activists. The letter was sent by Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Ted Cruz (R-TX), David Perdue (R-GA) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA).
Lee stated, “Over the past few months, elected officials and political leaders of foreign nations have been coming to me with disappointing news and reports of U.S. activity in their respective countries. This includes reports of diplomats playing political favorites, USAID funds supporting extreme and sometimes violent political activists, and the U.S. government working to marginalize the moderates and conservatives in leadership roles.” Lee continued, “This sort of political favoritism from our missions around the world is unacceptable and endangers our bilateral relationships.”
The regions highlighted by the senators where the political meddling took place include Africa, Latin America, Albania and Macedonia. It appears that the State Department has funded several organizations with direct ties to leftist billionaire George Soros. It wouldn’t be surprising to learn that these organizations would actively promote “progressive” leftist political agendas.
Should Tillerson decide to launch an investigation, and we think he should, it would assuredly reveal to even greater degrees just how politicized the federal government became over the course of Barack Obama’s time in office. The DC swamp only seems to be getting deeper.
