NFL Goes Full Woke
The “black national anthem” will be played during the first week of the season.
Once someone bows to the “social justice” mob’s religious revolution, there is no room for tolerance. Any failure to fully toe the line of the new “anti-racism” religion’s tenets — which include such terrible “sins” as questioning or objecting to the leftist “woke” narrative — will get one branded as a heretic and as “part of the problem.”
The National Football League is now experiencing this reality in spades. Never mind the fact that the NFL has been bending over backwards in its silly efforts to appease these “social justice” warriors (SJWs); the league has much more “woke” penance in which to engage.
Case in point: To signal its wokeness, the NFL announced last week, just in time for Independence Day celebrations, that before all Week 1 games to kick off a new season, the “black national anthem” will precede the playing of the national anthem.
This decision comes on the heels of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s apology last month, when he stated, “We, the NFL, condemn racism and the systemic oppression of Black People. We, the NFL, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest. We, the NFL, believe Black Lives Matter.”
The so-called “black national anthem” is the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” written by James Weldon Johnson in 1900. In 1919, it was dubbed by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People as the “black national anthem” due to its call for liberation.
Meanwhile, former NFL quarterback-turned-woke activist Colin Kaepernick called the Fourth of July a “celebration of white supremacy.” In a caustic social-media message, the Marxist grifter ridiculously insinuated that black Americans were still awaiting liberation.
The irony of the NFL, Kaepernick, and all those bowing to and fomenting the SJW rhetoric on race is the divisive nature of their message. A national anthem by its very nature encompasses and includes all people living within the nation. To suggest that a subset of the nation needs its own separate national anthem is a call for division and disunity. At the same time these leftist “social justice” activists are tearing down Confederate statues, they are justifying division and segregation. Tolerance has become a dirty word, as witnessed by the Washington Redskins owner finally capitulating to the mob’s loud demands that the team name be changed.
But it’s not just the NFL that has capitulated. Almost every professional sport has. It’s high time proud Americans make their voices heard and cease supporting what are fast becoming the anti-America sports leagues. How many Americans will take a knee to protest the “black national anthem”?
