The NFL Becomes a BLM Cheerleader
All teams’ end zones will display woke messaging to pacify the social justice warriors.
National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell announced this week that the league will place the messages “End racism” and “It takes all of us” in the end zones of every team’s stadium to show that “the NFL stands with the black community, the players, clubs and fans confronting systemic racism.” In other words, the NFL will bow to the Black Lives Matter mob by virtue signaling these “social justice” phrases. Goodell added, “We will not relent in our work.”
Evidently included in the “work” is the decision to will allow players to virtue signal their “woke” solidarity by displaying four league-approved slogans on their helmets or jerseys. Those slogans are limited to the following: “Stop hate,” “It takes all of us,” “End racism,” and “Black Lives Matter.”
Remember that time the league blocked the Dallas Cowboys from wearing stickers honoring the police officers killed in the line of duty? Goodell seems to have forgotten.
Blame for this complete capitulation to the Marxist BLM mob cannot be completely laid at Goodell’s feet, however, as plenty of players have taken it upon themselves to promote the false narrative of “systemic racism.” Exhibit A comes from the New Orleans Saints. At a practice open to the public, several players, including superstar quarterback Drew Brees, were spotted with “Jacob Blake” stickers on their helmets. The sheer hypocrisy of engaging in such a mindless and purely narrative-driven action is astounding. Police were attempting to arrest Blake for harassing a woman who had accused him of sexual assault. In other words, Blake was not some innocent victim minding his own business when police just decided to shoot him. Instead, he had a history of criminal activity and he resisted arrest. Those are the facts, but they clearly don’t matter to NFL players who are content to promote a lie rather than stand for the truth.
Evidently, in the Left’s hierarchy of victimhood, the BLM narrative of “systemic racism” trumps the #MeToo narrative of “rape culture.” Of course, with the NFL’s abysmal history of dealing with players who abuse women, it’s not surprising that the real victim has been ignored in the rush to take a knee before the BLM mob.
