The Chaotic ‘Count Every Vote’ Canard
The Left wants us to count every vote, regardless of whether they were legally cast.
It’d be one thing if the Democrats rigged the game and flooded the country with mail-in ballots in order to get one of their best and brightest into office. But they didn’t. Instead, they sold their Trump-deranged souls and brought utter chaos to the country for … Joe Biden?
At this point, Biden has amassed more than 72 million votes. That’s three million more than Barack Obama posted during his remarkable 2008 campaign — a campaign that was unprecedented in terms of its energy and its voter-turnout efforts. And yet we’re to believe that the American people have found 77-year-old Joe Biden’s rhetoric to be so irresistible and his candidacy so utterly compelling as to shatter Obama’s record-setting vote total?
Color us skeptical.
“I’ve been saying this from the day I heard they were going to be sending out tens of millions of ballots,” said President Donald Trump on election night. “This is an embarrassment to our country.”
Who can argue with him? And how far have we fallen? The 2020 presidential election shows no signs of a prompt or peaceful resolution, and our electoral system and transition process, once the envy of the world, is now the laughingstock of China.
National Review’s Andrew McCarthy traces the blame for all this to an institution that at first seems like an unlikely scapegoat: the Supreme Court.
“The latest talking point,” he writes, “is that the Supreme Court has validated the mail-in, depot-drop, and ballot-counting procedures that have been ginned up by state courts and election-board bureaucrats. This is wrong. The Supreme Court has not validated anything. It has abdicated.”
Abdication is a strong charge, but McCarthy backs it up, noting that the High Court has, in the weeks leading up to the election, twice declined to hear a key case in which the Pennsylvania Supreme Court lawlessly usurped the authority of the state legislature by rewriting its existing election rules in a way that would help Democrats “rig the vote count” if needed.
In considering whether to hear this case, the increasingly disappointing Chief Justice John Roberts made a play that was both cowardly and ruinous: He sided with the Court’s three liberal justices, thereby forcing a 4-4 deadlock (newly seated Justice Amy Coney Barrett did not participate), causing the rigged election rules to stand and giving the Left a powerful if dishonest talking point.
Remind us again how lucky we are to have a 6-3 “conservative” majority on the Supreme Court.
McCarthy continues, “The narrative that the Supreme Court has already authorized voting that does not comply with state election laws is just part one in a two-step scheme to enable post-election cheating: First, infiltrate as many illegal ballots as possible into the state systems; second, keep chanting that ‘every vote counts’ and demagogue anyone who says otherwise … as ‘suppressing’ votes, no doubt motivated by racism. The Orwellian narrative is already being written: To call for the Constitution to be enforced is to ‘steal’ the election.”
Thus, any effort to scrutinize the mountains of unmarked ballots flooding in for Joe Biden is a naked attempt to suppress the vote and subvert the will of the American people.
Count every vote. We continually hear it from the Left. But what leftists really mean is, Count every vote, legal or illegal, so long as it helps our side. It’s a quick and devastating refrain, because it immediately places those who support the integrity of the ballot as favoring “voter suppression.” After all, what kind of despot or racist would be against the righteous principle of counting every vote?
We can practically see the indignant headlines now.
The voter suppression charge is, of course, spurious — especially in this case. As Pennsylvania’s GOP made clear in its plea for the Supreme Court to hear its case, “Voters can vote in person on Election Day. Voters can request and cast their mail-in ballot beginning 50 days before an election. … Voters can choose to wait a week before Election Day to request their ballot. … Voters can send their ballot via overnight mail or deliver their ballot to the county election office. … This is not a case where the right to vote is illusory.”
Who knows where Biden’s 72 million (and counting) votes have come from? We certainly don’t. And it leaves a nasty, fraudulent taste in our mouths. President Trump earned six million (and counting) more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016 — which was one million more votes than any Republican before him had ever received. And yet right now he’s being electorally whipped by a tired old backslapper of a career politician named Joe Biden — a guy who twice in his younger years ran for the presidency and never got anywhere near it; a guy who couldn’t draw flies to a campaign event if his life depended on it; a guy who often has trouble stringing together a coherent sentence; a guy who is demonstrably unfit for the presidency.
And we’re supposed to believe the system that gave him 72 million votes is legitimate?
