IG to Investigate Biden’s Afghanistan Exit

Meanwhile, the media has avoided covering Afghanistan despite the fact Americans are still trapped there.

It was just a month and a half ago that Americans witnessed Joe Biden’s disastrous surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban, a scenario he had just weeks prior assured the American public would not happen. It was also around this time that Biden’s poll numbers began their precipitous decline, a decline that has only continued. And that’s about when the Leftmedia suddenly found other things to talk about.

The images of helicopters leaving the U.S. embassy in Kabul were reminiscent of Saigon in 1975, when U.S. personal and Vietnamese allies desperately fled Vietnam. Those images served as a painful reminder of the last major war America lost. Even more disturbing was the shocking footage of desperate Afghans clinging to a U.S. C-17 transport plane as it taxied down the runway and took off from the Kubal airport, resulting in the deaths of at least three young men. Days later, 13 American military personal and more than a hundred Afghan civilians were killed by a jihad suicide bomber. Each of these things could have been avoided had Biden not chosen to abandon the country without any real discernible strategy to prevent exactly what many, including his closest advisers, predicted would happen.

Despite Biden’s promise to leave no Americans behind, on August 31 the last of U.S. military personnel boarded aircraft and left, leaving several hundred American citizens behind enemy lines, not to mention thousands of Afghan allies. And even now there are still Americans trapped in Afghanistan, even as the Taliban continues its murderous crackdown.

But where is the mainstream media? Where are the nightly reports regarding those Americans still trapped in Afghanistan? Where are the intrepid reporters repeatedly pressing the Biden administration for answers on how many Americans remain and who they are? The fact of the matter is, the MSM has essentially followed Biden’s lead and has abandoned any concern over Afghanistan and the Americans who remain. Biden is their man, after all, and they would rather not exacerbate his sinking poll numbers by reminding America just how badly Biden bungled the pullout.

Meanwhile, the State Department inspector general is launching investigations into the department’s handling of the Afghanistan pullout. According to Acting Inspector General Diana Shaw, “Given the elevated interest in this work by Congress and the unique circumstances requiring coordination across the Inspector General community, I wanted to notify our committees of jurisdiction of this important work.”

Of specific concern for the IG is the manner in which the State Department handled the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program, as well as the emergency evacuation of the U.S. embassy in Kabul.

While the MSM may be avoiding Afghanistan to protect Biden, we hope the IG will shine more light on the Biden administration’s disgraceful handling of the Afghanistan exit.
