Monday Executive News Summary

It’s Tax Day, Twitter’s board hits Musk with “poison pill,” southern border sees worst month since Biden took office, and more.

Top of the Fold

  • Today is Tax Day: It’s Income Redistribution Day 2022, and the U.S. has set another record in tax revenue under the Biden administration. The U.S. Treasury announced that it has collected over $2.1 trillion since last October. Ergo, for the first time in history, Americans’ six-month tax bill exceeded $2 trillion. The lion’s share of revenue (over $1.1 trillion) came from individual income taxes, while $697 billion came from Social Security and retirement taxes. This is the second time during Biden’s presidency that the Treasury has set records in taxes collected. And yet, even with these records, the federal government’s spending is outpacing tax revenue, and the Democrats still want to only increase government spending.

  • Twitter’s board hits Musk with “poison pill”: After billionaire Elon Musk’s offer to buy 100% of social media giant Twitter for $43 billion, the company’s ideologically leftist board unanimously voted to adopt a “poison pill” plan. The plan introduces for a limited time a discount share price for other shareholders following a person’s or group’s acquisition of at least 15% of the company’s stock. In short, it’s a maneuver by Twitter’s board, whose current members other than former CEO Jack Dorsey collectively own less than 1% of the company’s stock, to stave off a hostile takeover. The board’s motivation for opposing Musk is not financial but ideological. They fear that Musk will actually make good on his promise to turn one of the world’s largest social media platforms into one where free speech is celebrated rather than suppressed. Currently, Twitter is the Big Tech leader in acting to suppress, censor, and ban conservative voices. Or course, Musk had anticipated the board’s move, noting that he has a Plan B.

  • U.S. southern border sees worst month since Biden took office: In March, U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended almost 210,000 illegal aliens crossing the border. The worst single month for illegal border crossings on record was March 2000, when border agents caught 220,063 illegals. This past March is no anomaly. Rather, it has become a fixture of Joe Biden’s immigration non-enforcement policy. Last month’s apprehensions represent a 28% increase over the prior year’s. And that pattern is holding true across nearly every single month. It’s getting so bad that Arizona’s governor is calling for DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s resignation for failing to do his job. Furthermore, while Biden and company loved to criticize Donald Trump’s handling of the border as “inhumane,” the reality is that more migrants have died under Biden’s policies than under Trump’s.

  • Biden and Harris are charity cheapskates: As Income Redistribution Day is upon us, it’s interesting to look at where our political leaders distribute their own income and see if their own personal generosity matches their loudly proclaimed concerns for the underprivileged. Unsurprisingly, we learn that neither Joe Biden nor Kamala Harris gave much of their money to charity. The Bidens, who reported $610,702 in income for 2021, gave a total of $17,394 to charity, which is below the average for individuals in their income bracket. Harris and her husband, who pulled in $1,655,563 in 2021, were even less generous, donating just $22,100, or 1.3%, of their income to charity. The national average for individuals in their tax bracket for charitable giving is 3.1%. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, throughout his time in office, gave away all of his presidential income to charity. Trump was generous with his own money, whereas Biden, who isn’t generous with his own money, only wants to be “generous” with your money.
