Crime, Crazies, and the Midterms
Rising crime and political violence are fruits of the same poisonous tree.
We have reached the eve of this all-important midterm election. Democrats are making their last campaign pleas to the public and attempting to reel in the undecideds. Yet they are so out of touch with the American people that they have picked issues like abortion and January 6 as their rallying cry. There are many more important issues for Americans, crime being high among them. But Democrats like coattail-riding New York Governor Kathy Hochul are pushing the lie that rising crime is a Republican conspiracy.
In an interview last week, Hochul said: “They have this conspiracy going all across America to try to convince people in Democratic states they’re not as safe. Well guess what? They’re not only election deniers, they’re data deniers. The data shows that murders and shootings in our state are down by 15%, down almost 20% on Long Island, where [Republican gubernatorial candidate] Lee Zeldin lives.” When she tried this line of argument on CNN, there was a banner on the screen that proved the blatant dishonesty of Hochul: Murder was the only crime that was down in New York City; the overall crime rate was up 31%. Both are up all across America, and it’s especially virulent in Democrat-run cities.
There are a number of reasons that crime has skyrocketed since 2020. For one, the BLM and antifa riots caroused the virtue-signaling Democrats to defund police departments. Places like San Francisco stopped prosecuting shoplifting if the amount stolen was less than $900. George Soros-backed district attorneys are taking away bail and letting violent criminals back onto the streets. That criminal unrest is mirrored by social/political unrest.
A distinct uptick in demonizing language is further polarizing Democrats and Republicans. This is particularly troubling considering the leader of the country and the Democrat Party, President Joe Biden, is the main instigator of this sort of attack. The “great unifier” in his most recent speech proclaimed that if Republicans win the midterms, it’s due to voter suppression and the thwarting of democracy. Biden’s remarks pale in comparison to that of “historian” Michael Beschloss, who intimated that if Republicans win, there will be no democracy, and children will be kidnapped and killed. Then there was “The View” cohost Sunny Hostin who referred to white suburban women who vote Republican as akin to cockroaches.
Most despicable of all was former President Barack Obama, who has been trotted out to hit the campaign trail for struggling Democrats. In a recent speech, Obama pointed out that the dangerous rhetoric demonizing political figures was directly responsible for the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul. Then he continued to blame the evil Republicans and ignore the inordinate amount of political violence committed by Democrat sycophants.
Obama’s call to stop using divisive language is classic Democrat projection. Let’s look at the fact sheet.
The amount of political violence in the United States has mostly been coming from the left side of the aisle. The 2020 Summer of Rage was widespread and long-lasting. Crisis pregnancy centers have been attacked since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. There was an attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh; a knife attack on Lee Zeldin; a physical assault against New Hampshire Republican Senate candidate Don Bolduc; horrific death threats against Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey from a self-proclaimed political terrorist; and North Carolina congressional candidate Pat Harrigan’s home was shot at after a vindictive campaign ad by his opponent.
Of the attacks on political figures, most of the perpetrators were mentally ill. That leads to the question: Why were these individuals out on the streets and not being treated for their mental struggles? The underlying problem is that Democrats refuse to enforce the law and are fostering a massive crime surge.
There will always be crime as long as there are sinful people, but there’s significantly less of it when police are allowed to do their jobs, when prosecutors and attorneys general uphold the laws, and when judges enforce sound judgment. Moreover, there is significantly less political terrorism when politicians use language that doesn’t portray their political opponents as Hitler 2.0.
It’s a problem that is almost entirely created by the Democrat side of the aisle. Their impractical policies have sunk our cities and the political conversation to such depths.
