Profiles of Valor: U.S. Air Force Special Agent Carmack

Air Force Special Agent Gregory Carmack served as an explosive-ordnance specialist in 2006 in Kirkuk, Iraq -- one of his six tours in the Middle East. In June 2006, Carmack's three-vehicle Office of Special Investigations (OSI) convoy was attempting to capture a terrorist in Kirkuk when they met a nine-truck Army detachment to hammer out details of the operation. During the discussion, Carmack reacted to a shot fired from a small truck that had run a security checkpoint and was heading their way.
