Did Britain Make a Mistake Leaving the EU?
Well, they did it! Great Britain ripped up its 40-year-old membership card in the European Union and may become “Great” Britain again: you know, sovereignty, security, and stability. Britain was a major player in the European Union, a bloc of 28 nations, making it the biggest trading zone in the world. Membership in the EU permits citizens of one nation to travel and live in other member-nations.
Last year, Britain received almost 350,000 immigrants and about half of them were from other EU nations. And British officials could not give any assurance that they could control further influx from non-English nations. Moreover, skulking in the shadows is the specter of Turkey being accepted into the EU thereby exacerbating the threat of numerous immigrants from Syria and Iraq (both on Turkey’s border) moving freely to Britain.
The British saw their nation losing its national identity. The pressure on the health care system, schools, and housing has been enormous, but withdrawal from EU will be costly, complex, and contentious. While there were various concerns about being part of the EU, the overwhelming concern was with immigration and its attendant problems: terrorism, loss of jobs, crime, and economic pressure on schools, housing, and health care. The other reasons for withdrawal are fluff, in my opinion.
Now that the EU has lost its second biggest trading partner, it will have to cope with massive immigration problems without Britain’s assistance. Moreover, I am convinced other nations will follow Great Britain and hopefully the EU will collapse. I say that not to be malicious but to be true to common sense and Scripture. What does Scripture have to do with anything? Everything. God provided the principle of national boundaries long ago and the EU removes borders.
Acts 17:26 reveals that God “hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.” God cared about boundaries and so should we. People who don’t respect borders don’t respect law, order, tradition, freedom, property rights, civil rights, etc.
The basic Scriptural premise is that every nation has an obligation to have distinct borders and to defend those borders. However, the globalists have always demanded open borders in every nation! The U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry expressed the globalist position when he told graduates at Northeastern University in Boston on May 6, 2016, that they should realize a “borderless” world was something they couldn’t stop, and should instead accept.
God respects borders. After all, He set them! Border or borders is used 178 times in the Bible. Only a few times does the word refer to the border of a piece of cloth; the rest have to do with tribal or national boundaries. Border is first used in Gen. 10:19 when God set the borders of the Canaanites. From Scriptural evidence, God does not believe in open borders. He set firm borders as recorded in Deut. 32:8: “When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.” This refers to Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth and the areas of the world their posterity would populate and control.
I remind you that God scattered and separated the people into nations and languages at the Tower of Babel where they were trying to build a tower to reach Heaven. Probably, it was a plan to thwart God’s will since He had told mankind to scatter across the face of the earth and multiply, but they wanted to make a name for themselves and stay where they were. That was the first attempt to create a global society. Progressives are still at it today telling us that nationalism is narrow and bigoted.
Mankind has drifted far from the message that God gave: He scattered mankind and separated them into various nations within firm borders. God gave Israel the land of Canaan and divided the land, giving specific portions to each tribe except for the tribe of Levi. God clearly provided the boundaries of each tribe as when Joshua declared in Joshua 15:1, “This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast.” God gave Judah — the largest and most important tribe from which the kings and the Messiah would come — the southernmost part of the land. Their portion was from the Dead Sea southward and west to the Mediterranean Sea.
Open borders are anti-biblical, totally contrary to God’s plan for man to survive and thrive. Europe has had open borders for many years. The citizens of the 28-country European Union may travel freely among any of the member states except Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania, and the United Kingdom that require travelers from other European Union states to present a passport or ID card at the border.
The world has seen the folly of open borders in the daily newspapers as thousands of migrants have been trampling through Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungry, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and into Germany. Some European nations have reinstated border controls; however, the horse is galloping down the road.
Britain’s departure from the EU rattled the stock market, refreshed the patriots, rankled the globalists, and rocked effete politicians. Even with the approaching storm, not a bad day for freedom.
