Filling Out the Survey – Which It Is Not!
A few days ago, I received another in a series of “Official Surveys.” All contained very predictable similar questions, the answers to which were just as predictable. This particular survey purported to be a “National Public Opinion Survey.” It was titled “Listening to America.”
It was complete with all the “official” bells and whistles; a registration number, a voting district code and a “to be returned by.” As usual, the title was incorrect and the street address was misspelled. There was no indication that my voting district code was correct. It read VDC-9220710-G-USA. I live in the 12th CD of NJ; I see absolutely no correlation.
Both on the front and back page was the usual plea, “Return your entire SURVEY DOCUMENT along with one generous financial contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, or $500 to help the NRCC expand the Survey Project to an additional 4.1 million Republican households.”
On page 2 began the “Survey.” Under the heading, Taxes and Spending are the usual general questions with no specificity. E.g. question #1 asks, Do you agree that raising taxes on families and job creators will hurt economic growth? That is just another generic question which has been answered time and time again. Raising taxes is detrimental to the economy. Ronald Reagan proved it.
Question #4 pertains to budget caps. How many times must we reiterate the answer, “You must pass and enforce legislation to balance the budget, which in plain English means federal spending cannot exceed federal revenue.”
Question #7 pertains to remuneration for federal workers. Simple. Do not touch the pay of the Military except for the folks in the grade of O-7 and above. Start cutting the rest of the federal bureaucracy including but not limited to the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary. Every Department is overstaffed, over paid, under scrutinized and under productive. A severe tightening of the belt is far overdue. Several thousand forced retirements and a hiring freeze is in order.
Question #8 is outrageous. Since the survey is sponsored by the NRCC, they already know the answer. If they recognize the existence of fraud, obviously there are some folks who need to be brought before the bar. Bernie Madoff was a piker to these Medicare/Medicaid felons.
Question #9 is wishy-washy. I do not generally support reform of the cumbersome tax code. I firmly oppose it the way it is and the manner in which it is handled. Eliminate it.
Question #10 is another dumb question. “Do you support House Republicans’ ban on ‘Earmark’ spending?” It should never have been allowed in the first place. Politicians are the most corrupt individuals in America. They spend my money and your money to build a bridge where none is needed and then hit up the contractor for a big campaign donation. Campaigns for House seats are never-ending.
To continue would be redundant, but I should like to answer one more, so I’ll skip to the very last area of interest, “Our National Character” and the first question in that area is, “Should we pass legislation to permanently ban federal funding of abortion?” NO! You should repeal Roe v Wade. Government has absolutely no business in abortion policy. Abortion is a question of individual liberty and a mother’s right to decide.
I believe I have touched on enough to make perfectly clear the real issue which is fund raising. If these were serious and meaningful surveys, there would be a site where responders could log in to get the results of the survey. That is NEVER done. Therefore, it would appear these so-called surveys are but another SCAM. Count me out.
