ISIL May Have Used Chemical Weapons
A group of photos suggest ISIL may have used mustard gas to kill civilians in July. The graphic photos, published by the journal Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA), show blisters covering the corpses of Iraqis, an indication of chemical burns. MERIA reports ISIL may have gotten the weapon from a shells not destroyed during the Gulf War. “The majority of the rebel groups in Syria, the Kurds, and the Iraqi army fighting ISIS aren’t well-equipped to defend themselves against a chemical agent,” said Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, a weapons expert from Britain. “That ISIS is using chemical agents, is something we should be worried about.” ISIL is an asymmetric threat that will not even abide by the international agreements of war.
