Obama Wants an Embassy in Cuba. Now.
This may be the ultimate symbol of how fast Barack Obama wants diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba to thaw. In an interview with Reuters, the president said he wants to have an embassy in Cuba before a Western Hemisphere summit begins in Panama. When, you ask? Why this summit begins in the middle of April, a mere six weeks away. We’re assuming the approval process for this project will go faster than the Keystone XL pipeline. “My hope is that we will be able to open an embassy, and that some of the initial groundwork will have been laid,” Obama said. He continued, “Keep in mind that our expectation has never been that we would achieve full normal relations immediately.
