Drunk Agents Shows Secret Service Not Reforming
Man, it seems like the Secret Service gig is the best one in DC for goofing off. Not only do you get to carry a gun and belong to one of the most respected protection agencies in the world (for now), it seems like it’s a nonstop party. Not only does the Secret Service hang with the most powerful man in America, they get to go on all sorts of trips – to places like Colombia, for example. Then there’s last week’s story of two senior Secret Service agents – one of whom was on Barack Obama’s protective detail. They were out drinking on a weeknight March 4 when they decided to go check up on the White House. So the duo hops into their government car and, whoops, crashes into one of the barricades surrounding the president’s home. Here’s where The Washington Post picks up: “Officers on duty who witnessed the March 4 incident wanted to arrest the agents and conduct sobriety tests, according to a current and a former government official familiar with the incident. But the officers were ordered by a supervisor on duty that night to let the agents go home, said these people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive internal matter.” Even after Omar Gonzalez, the Amazing White House Fence Jumper, embarrassed the force last September, little seems to have changed in the force protecting the leader of the free world because instead of rooting out bad agents, the service rallies around its own.
