Kerry: U.S. Won’t Just ‘Stand By’ While Iran Destabilizes Region
Secretary of State John Kerry had a stern warning for Iran regarding its involvement in Yemen. “Iran needs to recognize that the United States is not going to stand by while the region is destabilized or while people engage in overt warfare across lines — international boundaries — in other countries,” Kerry said. “We have an ability to understand that an Iran with a nuclear weapon is a greater threat than an Iran without one. And at the same time, we have an ability to be able to stand up to interference that is inappropriate, or against international law, or contrary to the region’s stability and interest.” Kerry said Iran is “obviously” supplying the Houthi rebels waging civil war in Yemen. Unfortunately, his bark is far worse than his bite. After all, he just got through negotiating the outline of a deal with Iran that practically certifies it as a nuclear power. In fact, the administration has been all too clear that a deal supersedes just about any other concern. So we doubt the mullahs are quaking in their turbans at Kerry’s toothless threat. More…
