Charlie Hebdo Cartoonist Says He Will Stop Drawing Muhammad

The cartoonist who drew two front-page drawings of Muhammad for the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo says he will never draw the figure again. “I will no longer draw the figure of Muhammad. It no longer interests me,” Renald “Luz” Luzier told the magazine Les Inrockuptibles. “The terrorists did not win. They will have won if the whole of France continues to be scared.” In January, jihadists affiliated with al-Qaida in Yemen attacked the publication’s office, killing five and wounding 11. Luz was not at work then, having overslept that day. It appears the French cartoonist is waving the white flag, that the threat of assassination has vetoed what Luz will and will not create. Indeed, they only liked the idea of standing with Charlie Hebdo and the principle of free speech. As Hot Air’s Allahpundit writes, Luz has already shown more courage than the rest of Western media combined. Drawing a single image of Muhammad placed the threat of death by jihadists on his head.
