Is Cruz a Liar?
Ted Cruz asserted this week, “Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have the identical position on health care, which is they want to put the government in charge of you and your doctor.” That is not quite correct – Trump’s plan is more statist than Clinton’s plan.
Donald Trump attempted to deflect the criticism. “Look, Ted Cruz is a total liar,” Trump said. “I’m so against ObamaCare. I’ve been saying it for two years in my speeches. I’m going to repeal and replace ObamaCare. … I don’t even know where he gets this.” Where Cruz “gets it” is the same place he got Trump’s liberal “New York values” remarks — from Trump!
So the question is this: What will Trump replace Obama’s failed policy with? Currently, Trump has not released a detailed health care plan. But if his past comments are any indicator, he will support some sort of single-payer health care system, similar to that of the socialist candidate. In Trump’s book, “The America We Deserve,” he wrote in praise of single-payer health care systems like the one in Canada: “We must have universal health care. I’m a conservative on most issues but a liberal on this one.”
Caught in his own lie, Trump later claimed he did not support single-payer, but “[Cruz has] got no heart. And if this means I lose an election, that’s fine because frankly, we have to take care of the people in our country. We can’t let them die on the sidewalks of New York, or the sidewalks of Iowa, or anywhere else.” In other words, single payer, and the result will be that TrumpCare would expand government even further and fulfill the ideological policy goals set by Obama.
