Harvard Study: Media Coverage of Trump Overwhelmingly Negative
It’s not really surprising, but the negativity coming from the MSM is at historically unprecedented levels.
On April 17, Donald Trump tweeted, “The Fake Media (not Real Media) has gotten even worse since the election. Every story is badly slanted. We have to hold them to the truth!” This was one of several tweets and accusations Trump has leveled against the mainstream media since his election victory. And now a recent Harvard University study confirms what Trump has been alleging for months — the Leftmedia’s coverage of Trump has been overwhelmingly negative.
Not just barely. An astounding 80% of the MSM’s overall coverage of Trump has been negative, which is unprecedented, with CNN and NBC as the worst offenders. According to Harvard, those two networks’ “coverage was the most unrelenting — negative stories about Trump outpaced positive ones by 13 to 1.” The study concluded, “Trump’s coverage during his first 100 days set a new standard for negativity.”
Below is a breakdown of the percentage of negative Trump coverage by major news media outlets:
CNN: 93% Negative
NBC: 93% Negative
CBS: 91% Negative
New York Times: 87% Negative
Washington Post: 83% Negative
Wall Street Journal: 70% Negative
Fox News: 52% Negative
European media outlets haven’t missed out, either:
ARD (Germany): 98% Negative
Financial Times: 84% Negative
BBC: 74% Negative
Furthermore, the study found, “Trump’s coverage during his first 100 days was not merely negative in overall terms. It was unfavorable on every dimension. There was not a single major topic where Trump’s coverage was more positive than negative” [emphasis added].
Below is a breakdown of negative MSM coverage on Trump by topic:
Immigration: 96% Negative
Health care: 87% Negative
Russian and Trump: 87% Negative
International Trade: 84% Negative
Personal background: 82% Negative
Other Foreign/Defense: 82% Negative
Personnel: 82% Negative
Fitness for office: 81% Negative
Terrorist threat: 70% Negative
Other domestic: 72% Negative
Economy: 54% Negative
All other topics: 82% Negative
Unfortunately, all of this was easily predictable. We, in our humble shop recall that during the Republican primaries, Trump received a staggeringly disproportionate amount of coverage. As we argued a year ago, Leftmedia wanted him to be Hillary Clinton’s opponent. That obviously backfired, but they intended to unload on him from the beginning, so this level of bias was to be expected.
