A Georgia grand jury has indicted three suspects with murder charges in the February death of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, who was shot in an altercation with a former police officer. Gregory McMichael was aware of Arbery’s criminal record at the time of the altercation. When he attempted to stop Arbery at gunpoint, believing he had broken into a nearby home, there was a struggle and Arbery was shot.

Originally there were no charges filed, though given the immediate national outcry of “racism” after a video of this incident was released, prosecutors were pressed to file charges. In fact, once the case is adjudicated in a court of law rather than the court of Leftmedia talkingheads, McMichael and his two accomplices may be held liable for Arbery’s death.

Predictably, Leftmedia outlets have saturated their viewers with the “white man kills a black man” story.

But in the same weekend the Arbery story broke, a 29-year-old black man, Sheldon Francis, targeted and murdered an elderly white Maryland couple while they were visiting the grave of their son at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Lidia Marino, 85, was deceased at the crime scene. Her husband, Paul Marino, 86, an Army veteran, died of his injuries a day later. Sheldon was captured after a violent shootout with Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team.

The Delaware murders received virtually no media attention in the days following the attack, and a search for mentions in the last week only returned a reference to a family support fund for the victims. But in the last 24 hours, the Arbery followup has thousands of mentions in top news.

Why the disparity in coverage? That is a rhetorical question — the obvious answer is because it fits the Left’s perennial “systemic racism” narrative.

Leftists strenuously avoid allowing that narrative to be adulterated by any debate about black-on-white murder or even black-on-black murder. But the racial reality is that black people commit 90% of interracial felonies, including murder.

Researcher Heather Mac Donald has thoroughly documented the racial disparity between interracial crimes. According to the latest Bureau of Justice Statistics survey of criminal victimization, Mac Donald notes: “There were 593,598 interracial violent victimizations … between blacks and whites last year, including white-on-black and black-on-white attacks. Blacks committed 537,204 of those interracial felonies, or 90 percent, and whites committed 56,394 of them, or less than 10 percent.” Dramatically increasing the per capita disparity is the fact that black people represent 13% of the population.

In a recent debate when I mentioned that disparity, an emotionally incontinent leftist declared it was a “racist dog whistle” distraction from the issue, which she asserted was “police brutality toward black people.” She did not respond to my counter that, given the fact that there are very few unjustified police-involved deaths annually but thousands of black men killing each other, arguably focusing on “police brutality” is the distraction.

For the record, the definition of “dog whistle” is an irrefutable assertion about racial disparity that does not fit the Left’s political narrative. In other words, black lives only matter when there is an interracial crime. After a lifetime observing how the Left has manipulated black constituents, Walter E. Williams notes, “The true plight of black people has little or nothing to do with the police or what has been called ‘systemic racism,’” adding, “We need to look at the responsibilities of those running our big cities.”
