The Coup-in-Progress Against President Joe Biden

Speculation is rampant that he will announce he’s dropping out as soon as this weekend.

Love him or hate him, Joe Biden is the duly elected* president of the United States. He chose to run for reelection to “finish the job,” and he won the necessary delegates to secure the nomination. Democrats chose to cover for Biden’s already obvious decline by not running any other viable candidates during the primary. They chose to avoid “democracy.”

And now they’re staging a coup against the sitting president.

President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt last Saturday. It’s looking less likely that Biden will survive political assassination.

Yesterday, I wrote about Biden’s off-ramp — his COVID diagnosis and comments that maybe some health issue might prompt him to reconsider staying in the race. Since then, there have been even more fevered media stories about pressure from high-level Democrats and a crack in the door from Team Biden. More on that in a minute.

First, a strategic point. Democrats have masterfully diverted attention from the Republican National Convention with all the churn about Biden’s age. Yes, Biden’s deteriorating mental state is a serious problem, but it’s not the problem. The real problem is that he has governed as a proxy for the radical Left. His policies are to the left of Bernie Sanders, and they have rendered destruction everywhere — an open and deadly border, a ridiculously expensive economy, and chaos around the world.

Democrats want voters to think that once the old man is out of the way, all of his failures will go with him, and they’ll present a clean slate. No, the same problems will persist under any Democrat.

Now, to the slew of news about the coup. Here’s a sampling of headlines in the last 24 hours:

  • “Obama tells allies Biden’s path to winning reelection has greatly diminished” —The Washington Post

  • “Pelosi has told House Democrats that Biden may soon be persuaded to exit race” —The Washington Post

  • “Pelosi Will Do ‘Everything in Her Power’ To Get Biden Off the Ticket” —The Washington Free Beacon

  • “Biden is isolated at home as Obama, Pelosi and other Democrats push for him to reconsider 2024 race” —Associated Press

  • “Biden’s family starts discussing his possible exit plan from the 2024 race” —NBC News

  • “Top Dems now believe Biden will exit” —Axios

  • “Biden left feeling angry and betrayed by top Democratic leaders wavering on his campaign” —NBC News

  • “New White House Doctor Sadly Informs Biden Only Cure For COVID Is Euthanasia” —The Babylon Bee

Okay, that last one is humor. I think.

Any way you slice it, the last two months have been a train wreck for Biden, and we’re seemingly coming ever closer to realizing Mark Alexander’s October 2022 prediction that Biden will not be the nominee. Obama and Pelosi still run the Democrat Party, and when they’re freely leaking to major media outlets about private conversations concerning Biden’s demise, you have to know it’s over for Scranton Joe.

Et tu, Barack? Joe must be thinking as he feels the virtual knife in his back.

To be sure, Team Biden is still insisting that he’s not going anywhere. “He is not wavering on anything,” said Deputy Campaign Manager Quentin Fulks. “The president has made his decision. I don’t want to be rude, but I don’t know how many more times we can answer that.” Campaign senior adviser T.J. Ducklo said the same: “Joe Biden is his party’s nominee. He’s the President of the United States. He’s running for reelection.”

(Fact-check: He’s actually not the nominee until the Democratic National Convention convenes on August 19.)

Biden’s campaign will continue to insist he’s not going anywhere right up until the moment he gives his dropping-out speech — a speech one report says is already written. The sad thing for Biden is that rather than gracefully bowing out, his party is forcefully taking the car keys. Democrats are utterly humiliating a stubbornly arrogant man who’s wanted nothing more for the last 40 years than to be president. Frankly, all of this embarrassment serves him right.

I mentioned that Democrats are thwarting “democracy” with this coup, but they may point to polls showing that nearly two-thirds of Democrat voters say it’s time for Biden to bow out. Then again, six in 10 Democrats think Kamala Harris would make a good president, so I question their judgment.

That actually brings me back to the ultimate point here, which isn’t the current president’s age or fitness for office. It’s the fact that the Democrats’ tyrannical policies are methodically destroying American Liberty. They will do anything to cling to power so as to continue that destruction, and Joe Biden is learning that the hard way.

Finally, a personal note. For the next four weeks, I will be on hiatus from my role here as managing editor. I’ve been on the job early in the morning and late at night for 20 years now, and it’s time to step away for a bit and give some time to my wife and five teens. I’ll return on August 19.
